Since I am a newly made redhead, I wanted to take full advantage of it for Halloween and pick a costume that would play it up. I decided on Joan Halloway from Mad Men and my boyfriend went as Don Draper.

Here are a few that I find really work.
I love pairing a really dewy cheek in the winter with a white eye and neutral glossy lips. Put a little white shimmer powder or a white eye pencil in the corner of the eye to get that winter goddess look. I suggest the M.A.C. pigment in Vanilla.
I have been using the MAC strobe cream for as long as I can remember. Definitely one my favs and lasts forever! It has an iridecent shimmer to it and blends on top of almost any blush. Unlike the others on this list, it is colourless – it goes from white like a moisturizer to sheer so you’ll definitely need a blush to go with. Or wear alone for a sublte dewy look. Only complaint: sometimes it can be a bit thick and the white doesnt blend compelety. “Benefit High Beam is an ethereal pink liquid highlighter that creates a radiantly dewy complexion.” – Sephora.com I LOVE this one! It is similar to the Strobe cream but not as thick. It is not as pigmented as the Chanel so it works great to get that beautiful supermodel dewy cheek look. Wear it alone or on top of blush (ideally cream). If you have a tan or warmer skin, this is great just on the top of the cheek bone. I know it comes with a brush in the lid, but I find you dont have enough control and too much gets on your face. Instead, dab some of the luminizer onto the back of your hand. Then use your ring finger (it applies the least amount of pressure) to apply to your cheeks from your hand, dabbing small dots all the way up your cheekbone. Keep dabbing to blend in – dont rub. This will prevent smudging of your blush and give the best results. Stila Liquid Luminizer I will be honest, I have only used this product once or twice and it was my girlfriends, but it worked really well when I did and it is a favourite of so many people I know that I felt it was worth including. Also, it won In Style’s Best Beauty Buys 2008. This one is similar to the Benefit luminizer and has a light pinky/gold colour to it. Again, I find applying with the brush in the lid is a little clunky, so I’d stick to the application above. FINAL REPORT: Remember; makeup is supposed to be fun, so dont be afraid to play! xoxo

This is the most expensive luminizer on my list, but it is worth the investment. If you have a darker complexion, it will give you that sunkissed (also the name of one of the colours) look all winter and just add a subtle glow to your cheeks. If you have fairer skin, I suggest the apricot for a beautiful refreshed tint to the cheeks. Dab a little along the top of the cheek bone and pair with cream blush in a bronze or a peach.

Overall, if you were going to choose between the Benefit and the Stila, it would really just come down to brand perefence (since they cost almost the same) and exeprience with the product. My suggestion – go to a Sephora store and play with them both!

This one is a little different than the rest. First, it comes in a pot and not in a bottle. It is more like a cream blush than a moisturizer in texture, but still goes on very smooth. It says it can go on as luminizer, a primer or instead of your foundation. I dont really find that that it works too well as a primer, but its great on top of other other products and you can mix this into your regular foundation for an all over glow. Be sure to moisturize before hand to achieve the dewy effect.
I like this one because I find that it has more versatility than the others. Because it is thicker it can easily be worn on its own and is great for mixing with other products – instead of mixing it with your foundation, try using it with a tinted moisturizer for a beachy glow.
Though I love this look, it is definitely not an every day makeup application so if you arent a big makeup wearer these arent the products for you. If you ARE a product whore like myself(!) and you love to try out different styles, all of these luminizers are amazing. Keep in mind that most of them are reflective so if you have acne, it will only enhance it.
If you want to give this look a try and dont want to spend the money, try dabbing a clear lipgloss on top of one your bronze blushes. The E.L.F clear lip gloss is only $1.00!
